January Specials of the Month 2005
Frankland Estate 'Isolation Ridge' Riesling from Australia-95 Pts "Stacked with sweet citrus fruit on the
midpalate, with strong structure; the most intense of the Frankland '05
Rieslings, with great line and length."Jim's
Comments- it's like a Riesling from Pfalz and Alsace with an oily nose that belies the
excellent structure and apricot and mango flavors(normally
$26.00 now $14.00)
2005 Domaine de Pierredon Cotes du
Rhone 93 Pts.A
non-filtered red. Almost opaque dark black ruby color. Direct, mid-toned
fruity nose -- plums, berries, and the barest hint of crushed rocks and spice.
Round, medium-bodied and fruity in the mouth
Jim's Comments- Fruit is what
defines this with the plums and blueberries are at the forefront with
undertones of cherry. This wine will be an everyday one with casual food (normally
$17.49 now $11.00)
2005 Miller 'The Works' blend from
Napa (48 % Syrah, 38 % Grenache, 14 % Mourvedre) only 511 cases madeA beautiful
proprietary red wine blend, the 2005 The Works Kimberly's Selection reveals an
attractive dark ruby color in addition to sweet kirsch and black currant fruit.
It is a supple, succulent red offering fine purity, ripeness, and balance. Jim's Comments- this is their
first attempt to create the Rhone blend. It
has notes of rose petals, red cherry and kirsch liqueur on the nose. Once on
your palate, the wine sings with the essence of wild strawberries, framed by
accents of spice. While medium in body and weight, this wine will continue to
develop nuance and complexity.(normally $45.49 now $20.00)

See You in Buenos Aires & Mendoza, Argentina February 2010 |
In three weeks we will be in Argentina, starting in Buenos Aires on February 18th this
elegant, old-world city with a touch of Paris here and of London there, a dash of New York cosmopolitanism and Italian exuberance here, the city nevertheless has a lot of Latin America in it as well and some things that are uniquely Argentine, such as its tango bars and overflowing kiosks. Here, everything is grand, on a scale fit for kings: Corner Wines travels to Buenos Aires & Mendoza February 18-27, 2010 and visit at least eight hand selected wineries.. Sorry that you missed this trip but look for more in the future..
